Award

Founded in 2022, the Hungarian Book Design award aims to collect and present each year Hungarian books designed and produced at the highest level. From all submissions, published in the given year, the professional jury selects the best ones in two rounds: these are shown at the award exhibition and included in the online and printed catalogs. There are no cash prizes.
The award focuses on book design as an applied art and as a crucial part of the whole cycle of book publishing. It is the explicit intention of the organizers to connect Hungarian book design with the international professional scene: as a result of this, winners will be nominated for the Best Book Design from all over the World international competition organized yearly by Stiftung Buchkunst.

Schedule
Categories
Independence. The award is fully funded by volunteer work and professional contributions – all of these are listed in the Impressum.
Professionalism. Aiming at international standards, the award makes a point of maximal professionalism both in terms of content and form. We hope this is achieved by a diverse but professional jury, smooth logistics, the design and execution quality of award interfaces as well as the fact that books can only be nominated by their respective designers, illustrators, or art directors.
Openness. The organizers do everything in their power to keep the applications process as accessible as possible, thereby facilitating the diversity of the annual submissions pool.
Conflicts of Interest. Members of the jury and the organizers are excluded from the competition.
